Cardinal losing a mate... (1 Viewer)

LostCardinal

New member
Hi, I'm new to the forum, but am trying to find closure to a sad incident. I hope that I am posting this in the right place... sorry if not.

I was on my way somewhere yesterday afternoon when I saw a male cardinal in the niddle of the road. I immediately pulled to the side and ran to his aid. I picked him up and brought him to my car hoping to care for him until I could set him free again. He looked as if he were alright, but only lasted a half hour or so. I wish there would have been something I could have done or that I would have known to do. And now all that I can think about is his mate waiting for him somewhere out there all alone.

My question is, What happens to the female cardinal if the male is lost. Will she find abother love?

Also, How long do Cardinals live? and/or stay together? Do they mate for life or just for seasons?

Thank you to anyone that can shed some light on this for me.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

Sorry sadness brought you here but rest assured, if there is a female mate, she will find a new mate before long.

Right now, my Cardinal population is running about 2 males for every 1 female.
