Cardinal egg disappeared then reappeared (1 Viewer)

A pair of cardinals built a nest in a boxwood bush beside my porch, literally 3 feet away from where l sit and play guitar.
I have, since discovering the nest, avoided the porch as much as possible though I do need to fetch my mail daily.
There were, as the photo shows, 3 eggs.
Except 2 days ago 1 was gone.
I assumed something had stolen it but this morning I see 3 eggs again!
Any theories about what happened?

It would appear that a Cowbird has laid the eggs in the Cardinal's nest. Cowbirds are notorious for this and you might want to google about the Cowbird's activity.
