Can I feed horse food to garden birds? (1 Viewer)

I have a half used bag of horse mix. Can I feed this safely to garden birds?

It says it is a muesli type feed - It is high in calories as well as being high in fibre & oil, and low in sugar & starch. The muesli also contains MSM, Biotin, glucosamine, prebiotics, and a patented blend of veteran antioxidants for immune support. It is also packed full of high quality protein.

Any views on this? Thanks Sue

I wouldn't have thought there'd be much harm. Birds feed on spillage at stables every day without ill effects AFAIK.

I use the cheaper brands of dogfood all in one type biscits, soaked till soft, the soft bills love it, and its more veg than meat.

As per Fugl. A horse's digestive system is very sensitive, so I really don't think there'd be anything to harm the birds included.

They would likely pick over what they wanted from it and leave the rest, so you might want to monitor that and ensure there's not feed left lying to encourage rats.

Hi Dantheman - I would definitely like to end up with that. Will immediately buy genetically modified food and put out bin loads.
Thanks everyone for your comments - will put some out and see if we at least get some fat birdies even if not pegasus :(
