Can a Hawak Grab a cat from a balcony? (1 Viewer)

Can a Hawak Grab a small dog or a cat from a balcony, or does a hawk need a staright line of attack? With a balcony with a roof they would have to come it at a very sharp turn.

My cat and dog love the balcony although the other day a hawk came very close and my cat ran inside with its hair striaght up and hide under the couch

Most BOPs are excellent maneuverers. How large are your dog and cat?
Many birds of prey (especially redtailed hawks) use a maneuver in pursuing ground dwelling prey known as a wingover.
To implement this technique a bird in level flight pursuit simply turns over and changes direction by ninety degrees tranferring it horizontal momentum into a vertical stoop.
So theoretically a raptor could hit your pets but I don't think you have much to worry about.

Although Birds of prey look big they weigh next to nothing and wouldnt have the lift to grab your cat let alone your dog.

Even a big Golden Eagle or Bald Eagle only weighs about a 11 lb max, and won't carry prey its more than about rabbit size for any good distance. Your average Red-tailed Hawk, the most common large hawk in North America, weighs about 2 or 3 lbs, and carries prey much lighter than itself. In addition, birds of prey don not like to take prey taht could do damage to them, especially something their size with sharp teeth and claws!!! I wouldn't be worried at all if I were you.
