Burris XTS 2575 (1 Viewer)

A few weeks ago I started a thread "Looking for a good cheap compact spotting scope" which gave me lots of food for thought! And indeed has made me look long and hard at my original spec of small cheap and compact and move away from a 50mm objective scope to some thing larger, say 60+ and indeed a more expensive scope!
But just before I move away, I now remember another spotting scope that may just fit that original spec and its the Burris XTS 2575. So I there for ask, has any one on birdforum any experience of this scope, better still long term use. I have seen one very good review of this scope from a couple of years ago if memory serves me right? Possibly from a shooting or hunting forum?

None for the Burris, but the Celestron C70 is a Maksutov like the Burris, a lot cheaper and allows the use of astro eyepieces with the aid of a supplied adapter. I did a review of the Celestron a while back (elsewhere in this forum) and noted the performance gains to be had by using a good astro eyepiece as opposed to the ridiculous zoom supplied with the scope.
Not sure what the price/availability is on that side of the pond, but can be had in Canada for about $100 (shipping included).

the Burris looks a lot like the Vortex Impact,if I remember well....I have read very good reviews about this scope...

Thanks rmel66, I have now checked out the Celestron C70 and added it to my short list. An interesting little scope, price seems good but would mean having to import as I can not find it here in NZ, still I've done that before! It would just fall down in not being fully waterproof and so I guess not fogproof either?

woodhornbirder, you sound as though you have some experience with this scope? If so any thoughts? I must say the name puts me off alittle. Not to much about Nipon on there web site, so it would be a leap in the dark! The scope does sound interesting though and I do fancy trying a maksutov-cassegrain scope now!

`I must say the name puts me off alittle. `

a chinese company pretending to be japanese does seem a bit underhand!

emailin you.

btw the 99quid for the nipon scope inc the tripod, he will knock off quite a bit if you just need the body only. I have the version before this one, optics are ok for the price, but it had design flaw in the focus mechanism, which i think they have changed.....ie it would slide out of focus due to the weight of the ep. Havent yet tried latest version.

edit, looked at the pic, doesnt look like they have changed the flawed focus system....you twist the barrel below the ep to focus, not the best system (
