Brown Thrasher going nutty.... (1 Viewer)

All day today I have had a Brown Thrasher who comes and sits on top of a shephard's hook where the bird feeder hangs and continually flies into the window facing him. He flutters a few seconds into the window, then returns to his spot and repeats. I have shooed him away for fear of him injuring himself, only for him to return. I hung up a towel over the window, thinking he was reacting to his reflection, only for him to fly to the window pane above it and repeat the behavior. Does anyone have any ideas as to what's going on or has anyone seen this before?

Hi Tracey40,

May I wish you a warm welcome to Birdforum on behalf of all the Admin, Staff and Moderators. I hope you will find plenty to interest you.

I would have said he was attacking his reflection and putting the towel there is just changing the point of attack - but maybe he's just nuts. ;)

Have seen more Brown Thrashers this week than all year. One I saw steal fod from a Robin. Another was feeding its young, which was making pitiful noises in a tree. The fledgeling was more grayish brown, and overall looked more like a thrush, shorter tail. Subdued colors, no orange tint to the brown.
