bristle feathers (1 Viewer)

I feel awkward about this question, but....
I am doing some feather research (licensed) and wanted to
use a chicken as a baseline against other species.

I looked for images of a chicken with bristle feathers and
none were to be found, yet all the chicken feather discussion
includes the claim that they have them. I have very close up
shots of red junglefowl and domestic chickens. None in any
of the shots. I processed a chicken for bristles, all of the
feathers I tweezered off closest to the eye did not meet
the definition of a bristle.... a rachis with few if any barbs
at the base. All the feathers pulled from close to the eye
had barbs up the length of the rachis.
