Bright orange-billed duck in SE Texas area? (1 Viewer)

I don't have a picture, I was 15 feet away from it at one point. The closest I came to identifying it was a Black-bellied whistling duck, but this duck's bill was brighter orange, had a longer bill, and she was solid, featureless tan. Also, the bill didn't have that protuberance, for lack of a better word, on the end of it's bill. She had eight tiny ducklings with her.

I can't think of any Northern Hemisphere duck with an orange bill other than female Mallard, or of any wild female duck which is "solid, featureless tan" (as opposed to barred, streaked or otherwise camouflaged), but have seen domestic/feral Mallards that come close to that description. A large brood of tiny ducklings now would also fit...
