Booted Eagle? (1 Viewer)

Well-known member
While on an excursion round the mountain tracks north of Nerja in early April 2017, our tour guide drew our attention to the Eagle shown in the attached photo. He was fairly certain it was a Booted Eagle. I would welcome confirmation of this, or suggestions as to what other species of Eagle could be.
Thanks
Martin

Adult.
...assuming 'Nerja' is in a country where Bonelli's eagles live - otherwise, I'll think again.
If you knew Bonelli's Eagle, you would just say "yes it is". There's not any other eagle in the World looking like this. You proved what I said to @Richard Prior : you need to comment after me even when you've nothing to say. This is hassling.

Valéry,
Calm down please ...I think the question after the country of the location is a valid question, Nerja is Spain though, as far as I know , and I agree with the identification.

I do not think in this case Butty´s answer is in any way intended to make you or somebody else angry - I´d say he just acknowledges that he himself doesn´t know all raptors of the world perfectly and that there might be something else in another country that could be looking similar. If you have the knowledge that there is no other raptor in the world that looks similar, fine- this is a helpful answer!
But how should Butty know your knowledge, or mine or any others at BF?
For example , I am a hobby ornithologist since my childhood and have some knowledge on birds in countries i have travelled (and on annoying hybrid ducks), but not all over the world -while I earn my money as an entomologist at a governmental institution. I do not claim to know more; while you come about as someone who is more professionally involved with birds, even lecturing, so with a different background.

Also Butty and Valéry, both please don´t take this posting as an offence-- I am not a native speaker , and in several cases at first some of Butty's comments seemed annoying and pedantic to me ... but in several cases when I red them again , I could understand and accept them. Generally , while my English is better than my French, some wordings and expressions are lost on me in English, maybe because i never worked in UK...
I have also seen a few comments from you, Valéry, where I had the same feelings, but less so, this may be because i have been working also in France during several years, also working with French colleagues and speaking the language somewhat medium...
I assume such feelings/interpretations will also be the case between other people here at bird forum - we all should remember we have very different states of knowledge and different directions where we came from to our shared hobby of birding.
So our perception of comments and answers by different people should be careful- we have lost some valuable contributors here over the years , while in general the bird identification forum here is the most accurate, fast and helpful one I know...
I for my part would miss either of you, if you were to quit this forum ...

"I do not think in this case Butty´s answer is in any way intended to make you or somebody else angry"

Butty is hassling me since months, and his aim is to p*ss me off so much that I leave BF. Admins are aware and now checking carefully what is happening. I hope Butty will stop doing so and all will be fine. Other active members unfortunately left BF because of Butty harassment.

Butty has answered to me and many others in the same way, and I do not take this personal, because I do not think it is meant that way... I have tried to explain how I understand his answer in the booted eagle thread ....
Take the Phylloscopus thread, I also can see both your points in there ...

Firstly, I think, Joern L, has made some very valid and sensible points. We're all different, and in some cases, interperate things, comments in a different way, that's what makes us individuals. Being a birder/watcher of limited knowledge, I value the comments and views of both, Butty and Valery, and other more experienced people on the forum, immensely! Ever since joining the forum, I have learnt more than if I hadn't have joined. It would be sad, if someone of immense knowledge, would decide to leave. All the best. Harry b.

I just want to add that Butty has edited his message. His original message was "Adult.". Then he edited it and wrote about the location. That's an objective and impartial statement.
