Bluebird - Moab, Utah Canyonlands (1 Viewer)

While visiting the Canyonlands in southern Utah, I came across this Bluebird who was attemping to swipe some of my lunch. I'm from Florida where I've never seen a Bluebird. I've lived other places, but have only ever seen an Eastern Bluebird in my 57 years, as I can remember, and then before I was interested in birds.

I asked a Park Ranger and looked it up in Petersons, but still don't know if this is a Western or Mountain Bluebird. I've got other images if it will help. He/She didn't seem to have much redish coloration on his/her breast.

Thank you in advance if anyone can make an identification.

Might be worthwhile checking out this site.

We have a good friend that lives in Southern Utah and will try and check it out with him, but they go on holiday tomorrow so I might not be able to get an answer quickly.

Scrub Jay?

Hi Craig,
This is actually a jay. On distribution I guess it is a western scrub jay.

Wow, it does look like a Scrub Jay now that I've seen the pictures of it. Dumb me thought all Jays had tufts on their heads. Goes to show how novice I am.
