Hi,
my name is Susan and I am from eastern North Carolina in a small town called New Bern. I am a bluebird advocate and I am experiencing great difficulty with invasive sparrows last year and now this year I am looking for some help from more experienced bluebird guardians.

Hi Susan!

I'm in Texas and have had the same problem with House Sparrows. I tried everything, including sparrow spookers, and here's what I've learned. It helped to change what I put in my feeders so it doesn't attract them. They love millet, so I removed it. I now feed safflower seeds, striped sunflower seeds, thistle and suet.

After five consecutive days of them taking over my bluebird nesting box (I'd remove the nest, and they'd do it again and again), I'd had enough. They even trapped and killed a bluebird inside the nesting box. I resorted to the Van ERT trap that I purchased from Amazon. I trapped the female HS and drove her to the county park a few miles away. After that, my bluebirds were able to build their nest, and I was thrilled to see blue eggs, which have now hatched into fledglings.

They laughed when I brought my water gun to a bluebird meeting and demonstrated how I handle any sparrows that come around my feeders now.
