I had a male warbler knock itself silly on our window a month ago. Fortunatly it came around and flew off after getting its senses back.

Is this a normal migration path? Is this species common? I have never seen one before, but I don't see any warblers often

hello,
Black-throated Blue Warblers are common migrants in the spring and fall in the east. The males sure are pretty, aren't they? :t:

Fairly unusual warbler for St Louis

Dear Guster:

As a new member of Birdforum I have just come across your enquiry from last November.

It is fairly unusual to have a Black-throated Blue Warbler hit a window in St Louis. In Spring this species usually takes a more easterly path to head north, although a small number may be observed each year e.g. in Kirkwood or in Tower Grove Park in St Louis city. They are somewhat more abundant in St Louis in the Fall but this species does generate excitement when it is seen in St Louis. A male spent a couple of weeks in TGP in the Fall and for lots of people it was the only one see that year.

Yöu should get hold of a copy of "Birds of the St. Louis Area" if you want to know detailed information about relative abundance of species there. It costs about $20 but is worth every penny. The shop at the Missouri Botanical Garden sells it or go to a meeting of the Webster Groves Nature Study Society to get one.

Mick, I missed getting down there for the Black-throated Blue Warbler, but I would really like to get it sometime. I have not seen it in the state of Missouri.
