Black Kite (1 Viewer)

Senior Moment
I see the long-staying Hampshire Black Kite was reported again today by Rare Bird Alert. Is there any obvious reason why it's still here, or is it just another of those things like Izzy, Sammy and the Helston RBG?

This also puzzles me. I was going to go last year but pals said dont bother as its an obvious escape.
We had a week in the New Forest last year and went to the Bird of Prey centre near Andover, which was superb. They had several flying displays (inc 2 Bald Eagle) and one consisted of releasing c. 10 Black Kites at the same time to fly for tit bits. All returned, but I enquired as to whether any ever get lost and was deflected from my path with negative responses. But, it still left me wondering....................
They also had a large aviary outside with Red KItes apparently being prepared for klife around the New Forest, but this was not part of the English Nature poject that is local to me in Derbyshire.
