Black grouse lek/corncrake on Ardnamurchan Peninsular? (1 Viewer)

I am spending a week on the Ardnamurchan Peninsular from 30th May - 6th June and would LOVE to see black grouse lekking - does anyone have any tips about possible locations to try? I'm very aware of the need to observe without disturbing the birds, so any advice about an easily accessible lek would be much appreciated.

I believe that there is also the possibility of corncrake on the peninsular so again, any pointers would be very gratefully received!

I have read the many fantastic accounts of trips to the Ardnamurchan Peninsular on the forum and have noted all the recommendations, but if anyone has any new/any other ideas of locations to visit for a chance of wildcat or good otter/red squirrel sites etc. please do let me know...

Thank you for your time and help.

On Ardnamurchan, the seafront at Resipole farm campsite and just West, is great for Otter (evenings).

Red Squirrels: try the road West on the South bank of the River Shiel, just North of Acharacle. I dipped but apparently it is recommended. Big Scots Pines just by the junction.

Wildcat see the various "Johns Mammals" threads under Lists.

I haven't heard of Black Grouse near there.

Corncrake: I don't know any sites but you could try listening at patches of rushes/iris beds towards the outer part of the peninsula. Just beyond the Sonacahn hotel springs to mind.

Incidentally I will be roaming up there the week before you and will post on BF on return (Johns Mammals 2009) so if you have internet access while on hols, there might be tips on there. Any critical sightings I will also mention to Ritchie Dinnes at the Glenmore Wildlife Centre.
