Hi,
I'm new here and only joined after googling this forum. I wanted to know if anyone here knew of any great locations to find Kingfishers in Birmingham?
I already know of Ackers Park which was the place I first encountered them by chance, however that location is very difficult to say the least. Seeing them without binoculars and zoomed in camera lens is near impossible if not absolutely impossible!
I have asked a couple of people on Flickr and they told me of nearby places like Sarehole Mill but sadly I haven't had any luck. Seems like the best place to see them (for me) is the worst place which is Ackers Park.
I managed to capture 2 and it took me hours of waiting in stress positions! After a month or so later I managed to capture 2 shots of them.
First is of what seems to me like an Adult Male...

Second was (I think) an infant/brood/fledgling (or whatever they're called)

Info on these photos can be seen in description under the photo.
I was told by a couple of people who I met on flickr that I should get a better chance in a few days as the young will leave the nest. I hope they are right as I'll return there in a few days. However I was just thinking if that second photo is an "infant" then maybe they have already left the nest and I've missed my chance!
Either way, if anyone knows of any great location where I can spot them without disturbing them of course, then I'd be grateful.
I just want to point out that I have no issue of frightening off or disturbing the Ackers Park Kingfishers as I'm always well hidden and keep my distance. I have never scared them off since I found some great places to hide. My photos may seem up close, this is because my camera has 60x optical zoom and 240x digital zoom. So distance is not an issue for me, it's the lack of visibility.
The river at Ackers has horrible bends and trees as well as overgrown bushes blocking most of the river where they be.
Any info. on where I can see them with great visibility and where they are more frequent will be great, my next target is to see one fishing and see more than one at a time, in a group would be great if not a pair.
