Birds of Black Isle (1 Viewer)

We are going to spend a week at a cottage near Inverness on the Black Isle at the end of August. Does anyone know what birds we might see in this area and what are the best places to go to see the local birds. Is there a bird list available for the area?
Thank you,
Jane

I suggest you get in touch with member John Poyner, who runs a website covering the area.

Black Isle

You're in the centre of lots of good birding spots there.

(1) Drive down the whole length of the Findhorn valley from Tomatin (scan the skyline for golden eagle, peregrine and the hillsides for red deer)

(2) Red kite anywhere on the Black Isle. Seawatching on the Firths and coast.

(3) Drive to Boat of Garten/Nethybridge and Abernethy Forest - red squirrels, siskin, crested tit. Visitor Centre for updates on the pair of ospreys - Henry & EJ.

(4) Spey Bay towards the north; Findhorn village.

I'm sure there have been lots of postings about this area. Search the Forum.

Gordon Hamlett has just published a good book "Best Birdwatching Sites in Scotland" if you want places more off the beaten track, with maps.

One visit won't be sufficient to this beautiful area.
