The birds (Aves) from the early Pleistocene site of Senèze (Domeyrat, Haute-Loire, France)
Pp. 145–163 in E. Delson, M. Faure, and C. Guérin (eds.), Senèze: Life in Central France Around Two Million Years Ago
doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-64415-3_8

The Senèze avifauna includes four extinct taxa, Pavo bravardi, Tetrao cf. partium, Surnia robusta, and Corvus corax antecorax. Pavo bravardi, closely related to Pavo muticus, the Green Peafowl of South-East Asia, has been reported in seven European localities, of which Senèze is the most recent one. The other elements can be referred to Recent species, many of which either live on water, or on water banks, or in forested regions with lakes. The Senèze avifauna shows some similarities with the slightly older one of Saint-Vallier, in the same area, but at Senèze the environmental conditions indicated by birds correspond to a more humid climate and to a more wooded paleohabitat.
