Thank you to all those who replied to my request. I realise that I didn't really make myself clear. I really need a translation from French to English rather than from English to French. I have a "Ou voir les oiseaux en France" and while I know some of the names there a host that I don't know. I was hoping to get a list from somewhere to avoid trawling through the dictionary and even a big dictionary won't have all the names.

Dictionaries are hardly the place to find enough details. But The Concise Edition of BWP has an index for various language names. It does not get you there directly, you still need to go the the actual pages in the books before you get to the corresponding English name. Nevertheless, that is probably worth a try. And there are similar compilations for German, Spanish, Italian, and several other European language bird names. The good thing is also that both volumes have the complete list. So you don't have to know in advance whether the name is from a passerine or a non-passerine species.

I have managed to find a list on a French web site but thank you for your suggestion.
