Birding Lower Moors, St Mary's, Scilly (1 Viewer)

Hi

I keep seeing 'hotspot' descriptions as Dump Clump, ISBG Hide, shrubs east of Shooters Pool, pool behind Dump Clump, Project scrape.

I am maybe considering an over night on Scilly going this Friday subject to quite a few things) - accomm availability, Waterthrush still being present, will I feel up to a such a long drive on the day etc, but I know time is going to be a premium even overnight.

Are the above locations quite close to each other ? is there a reserve map I can study on line?

One thing about Scillonian boat prices - website says £42 single adult fare, and day return £35. What is to stop you getting two cheaper day return fares (missing return journey on outward leg at least)?

Appreciate any help in advance.:t:

Hi Wolfbirder - all these sites are very close to each other. There is a basic map for sale in most newsagents etc which from memorey looks v similar to the following attachment: http://www.scillyonline.co.uk/images/stmarysmap.gif.

Lower Moors can be approached from either the northern end (turn right at the junction of Porthloo Lane and Telegraph Road) or from the south (walk down to Old Town and take the road on your left just before the cafe). The hides are about equi-distance from either end. The Dump Clump (and Project Pool accessed from it) is along a path that is not marked on the map between the industrial estate / dump and the school on Old Town Road.

I am sure the birders on the island can give you better directions once you are there (better than me trying to explain a specific location you are not familar with).

In terms of the Scillonian tactic - nothing at all!

Hi,

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?mp...429325.0004aef463f5427f96eaa&t=h&z=16&vpsrc=1

Ive put the areas requested on an aerial, to best of my knowledge. The 'project scrape' and 'pool behind dump clump' are presumably one and the same, they will be in one of the three fields just NW of dump clump, but which one I dont know! Follow the directions given for the Waterthrush - past glove over ditch etc...

Enjoy the trip,

Cheers

The Project Pool is to the NW of the Dump Clump, immediately east of the dump. The directions make most sense of you enter the Dump Clump from the northern (ie Telegraph Rd / industrial estate) end.

Thank you that is brilliant GDK ! Really appreciate the trouble you have gone to, will be useful for many I should imagine,

No Scillonian tomorrow, next chance may be friday for me now. If the goodies are still around.
