Hi

Does anybody know what type of hawk this is? It happened during a Live Stream on Twitch ! Who knew Birds of Prey liked sandwiches?

I think it may be a Black Kite?37382D78-34F8-4E20-ADA5-BC1F1D2F2086.png

Hello,
welcome to birdforum!
Thanks for joining this forum to post this intersting video. I know, that Gulls do this (and its a lesser problem in some towns now) but a raptor with massive claws might take this to another level.

And I agree with you, it look like an immature (1/2 cy?) Black Kite for me, too. Do you know the exact date?

During WW2 in the North African deserts, Black Kites were christened Sh*tehawks for their habits of stealing their dinner from their billycans.

Hello,

Iooking at this thread again, I realize that I missed the location. I thought it was Poland (???), but know knowing it was taken in Japan. I see unusual blueish- grey legs and ceres without any yellow of this bird. Many Black Kites have yellow(ish) hues there. Variation? Or another species?

No offence to a new member (you kow or learn, that there are many helpful experts here), but a quest for others to jump in. Thanks!

I can recall my old manager (WW2 NA Vet) regaling me with tales of Sh*tehawks and shooting them…just because of that!

As a young boy living in Egypt with my father & family who served in the British Army until we were evacuated because of the Suez crisis we called them by the same Nick name. They were everywhere and would steal anything edible at every opportunity --- inclding the chicks of our free range chickens and turkey's
