Hello,

I hear these birds in the morning and watch them before sunset when I
get home around 7:30pm/8:00pm. They are flying very frequently and
seem to be chasing each other. I would guess this is part of mating. When they fly they have been making this chittering sound almost insect like.

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with Chimney Swifts, but I do see a lot of swallows in my area (mostly Tree and Barn Swallows) and I would agree that they are a species of swallow or swift.

They are fun to watch in flight as they hawk for insects, giving the most amazing display of aerial grace, and most species that I've heard give some type of call as they fly.

Enjoy the show the next time you see them!

Hi Gillian,

I took a listen to the Chimney Siwft, Tree Swallow and Barn Swallow audio from Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs - Eastern Region and what I'm hearing is the Chimney Swift.

I've seen Tree Swallows and Barn Swallows at a lake and they are very cool to watch. If I wasn't with my birding friend I would have no idea what they were. I'm pretty new to the field. I've been mostly a feeder tree bird watcher and digiscoper.

I love the way the Swallows fly in their roller coater like flights. I think I saw one in a tree brance once.

Thanks,

Swallows and swifts in flight, though a very cool example of convergent evolution, cannot be confused. These are Chimney Swifts. YellowBudgie, if you're familiar with the way swallows fly, you'll notice that swifts fly pretty differently.

Hi Alex,

I did listen to the chimney swift audio and it was what I was hearing. I was just mentioning since someone brought it up how neat swallows are in flight. Your right about the difference in flight

See ya,
