Bird ID? Mashpi-Amagusa (Pichincha/Ecuador) (1 Viewer)

I've just been culling photos from our visit to Northern Ecuador in November and found 2 pics (the only ones I have & although not consecutive 99% sure are of the same individual) that I'm struggling to put a name to. This bird was seen while we were checking out the moth light from the veranda of the main lodge at Sergio & Doris's excellent Mashpi-Amagusa reserve.

It was early in the morning so very limited light - which is my excuse for the (lack of) quality of the photos - and these are quite small crops. Location is at around 1300m and in a clearing at edge of cloud forest. I won't offer any suggestions so as not to introduce any bias (not that I have any firm thoughts!).

Thanks for any suggestions.

Chris

OK - plenty of views but no comments to date! Any objections to Bronze-olive Pygmy-Tyrant?! (although a completely different looking bird to one I photographed a year earlier at Montezuma/Colombia).

Could be. I think I see evidence of flash in your photos which might explain the rather vibrant colours

I never, ever use flash! However there was a large, lit moth sheet a few metres away which I guess would give a similar photo effect.

After putting up the original query/photos I spent an hour trawling for likely candidates (based on the illustrated site species list in eBird) and came on Bronze-olive Pygmy-Tyrant - which I'd previously discounted based on my previous experience in Colombia where birds there look much like the header photo on the eBird species account (ie. the much browner peruvianus race). However looking through the other photos on eBird are several examples of the berlepschi race - many also taken in Pichincha province which have a much greener/yellow based plumage in line with the bird I saw/photographed.

So, based on the above I'm happy with this ID (and checking my eBird lists for that day we did record the Pygmy-tyrant at this site) and guess I just didn't take it on board at the time - which is quite likely as the birds were coming thick and fast that morning including several lifers which would have got my attention!

Thanks for your response.
