Bird books and value (1 Viewer)

Sadly my father is not in the best of health and he has a big collection of bird books. There aren’t any that are sentimental that I haven’t already got or need.

I think most of the books will be going to a charity shop but the question is are any worth anything?

Where would I find out?

Sorry your dad's not very well.

I'd start with Ebay and Abe Books. A lot of specialist, niche stuff goes on Ebay - one advantage of a world wide web.
Then try some specialists.

If u have any by 'BB', please let me know. The poorer quality the better, I'm not a collector. 🙂👍

You could try searching for them on Abe...

But be aware the prices that come up are what people are trying to sell them for. There is no guarantee that they have actually sold any for that price.

I’ve bought and sold bird books over the years and rarely find the older ones to be worth anything significant, though there are the odd surprise. It can also take a while to sell some of the better priced books, and postage and packaging can be an issue due to the weight of bigger books especially as collectors may be overseas.

As others suggested EBay & Abebooks are useful, also there are people on BF that have an interest in books so it’s worth listing them here. Plus you can occasionally get round the postage issue depending where you (or the books) are.

If there is a secondhand book dealer anywhere near where your father lives then why not ask them to have a look over his collection?
