Hello,
This is my first post to this forum, and I am in fact a bit new to the "birding" world, so I certainly appreciate any advice that might be offered on this topic. I have several different types of bird feeders in my back yard; hummingbird, suet feeders, backyard bird feeders, and finch feeders. I recently added a bird bath. Things went well at first as birds got familiar with the bird bath. Then, out of seemingly nowhere, it was surrounded by a swarm of bees that hasn't left yet. I've been looking on the internet a bit for advice, and it seems that the general opinion on this topic is to allow the bees to take over the bird bath, as they are getting to be endangered now-a-days and "need" the water more. I understand that they take the water back to their hive. I would probably allow it then, except for two things- both myself and the birds HATE the bees. The birds have all but stopped even trying to use the bird bath, and I can't even park my car at the end of my driveway without being swarmed trying to get in and out of it. Not to mention, I'm horribly phobic of bees.
I don't want to kill them. I do understand the plight of the bees and all of their troubles and I am sensitive to them. However, I DO want them out of my bird bath, and (preferably) out of my yard to go on existing somewhere else. Does anyone have any idea how I might accomplish this? Even if I were to try and kill the bees, I'm afraid to spray bug spray on the bird bath because I don't want to harm the birds should they return the bird bath.
I appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!
