My sister gave me a yellow tubular mesh feeder last spring. I stocked it and my other tube feeder with fresh nyger all spring and summer, but got no takers. Some chickadees and nuthatches checked it out, but quickly got frustrated. I wonder if this particular mesh feeder has a mesh that's too fine. I tossed all my nyger, but I have some white millet. It won't pass through the mesh.
How is a bird supposed to insert it's beak and grab a seed that's too big to pass through the mesh? Or is white millet that much larger than nyger?
I no longer have any nyger to compare. Currently laid up with a back injury, so I can't get to the store to compare.
