AX Visio Firmware Update (1 Viewer)

Music to my ears!
Swarovski Outdoor App & AX Visio firmware update now available for download. It appears to feature primarily video stabilization along with some bug fixes and performance improvements. If you are fortunate enough to own this pricy toy, check it out!!!

Firmware 1.2.7 is now out and running. Swarovski claims that the new software gives not only better feedback as to the reasons why a "no bird recognized" message is displayed or why other failures to identify birds occur, but seems to also have increased the identification distance, esp, for small birds. Will try this over the coming weeks.
You certainly have seen the other nice thread where Jason is reporting on his Visio usage in Borneo (AX Visio from Sabah, Borneo).
I attach a few identification pictures made last month not in Borneo, but in Berne; I am pretty sure you will have some difficulties even finding the birds in the pics that the Visio has identified ;)

Canip,

May I know your camera settings? I'm still figuring out the best settings for optimum pics and videos.

My settings below:

  • Recording resolution at the highest
  • Video frame rate at 60 fps
  • Image stabilisation enabled
  • Exposure compensation was on 3 then back to 0
  • Brightness at 0
  • Contrast at 7
  • Colour saturation at 32
  • Sharpness at 16

Jason,

I currently use
  • Recording resolution at the highest (1920x1080)
  • Video frame rate at 60 fps
  • Image stabilisation enabled
  • Exposure compensation 2
  • Brightness at 0
  • Contrast at 5
  • Colour saturation at 36
  • Sharpness at 8
but I tend to adjust values depending on where my main targets on an outing are; for taking pics in a forest looking mainly up into a bright sky, I may adjust brightness and exposure values differently than when looking down from a vantage point onto fields and meadows. I also adjust for the time of day and the weather.

Is the image stabilisation with the new software? Those photos look quite a bit better than what I got when I tested the AX almost a year ago.

„Image stabilization“ is not the same as IS on a Canon or Fujinon. As far as I can tell, it only works with the video function and is sort of an electronic jitter reduction in the video you take (no idea whether Swaro can work out a comparable „trick“ for the photo function, I have my doubts but it would be welcome).

Thanks for the clarification, Canip.
Do you find yourself using the video more than still photo option if you wish to use the images for bird i.d.?
