Attracting house wrens? (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone

Was just wondering how to attract house wrens to my yard? I have seen/heard them in the surrounding area before, but never in the yard

Is there anything they especially like to eat, its a bit late in the season now for nest boxes

House wrens will respond to nest boxes, to the point of excess. The male will stuff every nest box available with twigs, leaving the female to finish the job properly in the one box she selects. So deploy some boxes, even though it is late. At worst, it will leave them eager to return next spring. and at best, you might also draw some tree swallows or blue birds, if you make the nest opening a bit bigger.
Wrens don't come to feeders in my experience, although live mealworms might work. However, they are costly unless you raise them yourself, which fortunately is pretty easy. Good habitat, with shrub and brush for them to forage in is a plus, as is a small water source, preferably running or splashing..
They sing so cheerfully that their meanness (sabotaging other birds nests) is forgiven.
