Seems very much at edge of distribution, but do not see what else that could be?

Other birds seen at that location with meadows , wooded areas and small river , partly park like near "traditional village":
grey wagtail , eastern yellow wagtail, white wagtail (regional race), collared finchbill, mallard, moorhen, ringnecked pheasant-subsp?, vineous throated parrotbill, black-throated bushtit, chinese greenfinch , the regional magpie species (oriental?) , swinhoes minivet, tree sparrow, black naped oriole , crow species (carrion or large billed or both?), redbilled blue magpie , some bush warbler sp. etc etc...

Can't imagine anything else that fits. There are records in ebird immediately south of Shaanxi and as far north as Shanghai so possibly just under recorded in the area. Excellent notes (again!) Joern 👍

Looks like.

By the way, there is active trade in cage birds in China, and some out-of-place birds seen in and around towns might be escapes.

Looks like. South of Shaanxi is undoubtly in the distribution range of Asian Koel. Some distributed maps of China are produced when they lack data, and they are out of date. After all, birding is a relative new thing here.
