Any Little Auk passage? (1 Viewer)

Small numbers off the north Norfolk coast all week, the best count i`ve heard of is 80+ from Sheringham on Wednesday morning.

Numbers have dropped right off here west of Bergen, Norway.
Barely into double figures during the last week or so.

It has been a typical autumn thus far here with big numbers in late October / first half of November. For some pictures see this link.

Last week (on 29th November) there were massive numbers (10000 in 3.5 hours!) further south at Lista.

Don't land on the ice

Yesterday (06.12.2011) I saw a little auk sitting on the ice on the lake outside my house. Only a small portion of the lake was frozen, most was open water.

To cut a long story short the auk was grabbed and eaten by a crow.

I wonder why on earth it was defenceless on the ice when had it sat a few metres away on the water it could easily have evaded the attentions of the crow. The bird was mobile but did not manage to get up sufficient speed to take off from the ice - again a problem that would have been solved on the water.

Managed to snap some pictures of the event - not nice if Little Auk is one of your favourites. There pictures can be seen here
