A bird song gadget - what did I see please? (1 Viewer)

About 7 years ago I was birdwatching at a well known reserve in a well known county when someone thought they heard / saw a Grasshopper Warbler. A bloke standing next to me whipped out what (from memory) looked a little bit like a large mobile phone in a wallet, produced a stylus, tapped on an icon of Grasshopper Warbler and lo and behold it played the song and the bird actually flew towards us - I am sure this is all bad fieldcraft and illegal, but I am curious to know what the gadget was that the bloke had, any ideas please? Thanks.

!? Most tablets with an uploaded app like 'Collins bird guide' would fit the description.

Most smartphones with a downloaded public collection of bird sounds or a bird app like Collins app would do the same, minus needing a stylus, plus being lighter and more hardy.

I do seem to recall a device on sale that was a bird guide with a built in audio player. Something similar to this

When I was looking I found a very weird product

A waterproof device that can play recorded bird song into your garden for ambience!

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps my memory is fading and it was only a smartphone but I am pretty sure it wasn't because I remember being curious about it and wondering where it came from as I would have thought I would have seen it somewhere. I am 90% sure he used a stylus to open up the sound.
