1st try with Powershot S70 (1 Viewer)

Hi, I just got my hands on a Canon Powershot S70 together with a Canon LA-DC10 adaptor + Swarovski digiscoping adaptor for the ATS 80 (fits with the "28" ring that comes with it)

My first impression is that it may be a good substitute for the Nikon Coolpix 4500; much smaller and lighter (no need to counterbalance the scope), easy, fast, user-friendly menu, larger LCD.

The only major setback I find is that there seems to be no way to "save" the zoom when you shut off the camera, so that every time you turn it on you have to zoom again, wasting precious seconds. Or maybe there's a way and I haven't found it yet...

I attach my first attempt, it was late in the afternoon and light was poor, but sharpness seems OK.

I will post my impressions as I get further acquainted with it. Has anyone worked with this camera for digiscoping?

Regards from Madrid,

Ignacio

Ignacio,
I don't know how similar the 'S' series are to the 'A' series but if you have a 'C' (custom) mode try zooming to your required setting and use the 'Save Settings in C' feature in the Menu. If it works save all your favourite settings to 'C' mode and use this all the time.

Good luck

Thank you John-Henry!

I did as you said and yes, after saving the zoom at maximum in "C" mode, when switching on the camera it automatically zooms back to max. Still, it takes a couple of seconds (the Coolpix 4500 is already zoomed in when you switch on the camera).

Will the Swarovski adaptor fit a 37/38mm od eyepiece?
I use the Canon LA-DC10 adaptor with my Canon S60 Camera, but I have trouble trying to maintain sharp focus using the camera zoom. An idea of
your camera settings would be helpful.

Hello, Ogriofa, welcome on board, is that Ó Gríofa or is it entirely a coincidence that your nickname is the same (almost) as an Irish surname? Happy Birding, Éanna
