As much as I try, I still have trouble telling my lesser from my greater yellowlegs. Seen at the Ding Darling Preserve on Sanibel Island, Florida during December. Thanks!

    Greater or lesser Yellowlegs

Seen today, 4/29/21 at Lee Metcalf NWR near Stevensville, Montana. Looks like lesser to me but lesser is relatively rare in the area compared to the more common greater. Bird in background is a gadwall for reference.
  6. Lesser yellowlegs

    Lesser yellowlegs

One of our winter visitors from Canada - yes, we get both kinds of 'snowbirds' - people and actual birds!

Foggy morning with Mr. Lesser Yellowlegs (I think)

I went out early this morning, and expected a clear sky for the sunrise. However, the weatherman was wrong. It was overcast and foggy instead. I could barely get my phone to focus on anything through my Diascope, but eventually it lifted just enough to fiddle around with a few shots. I was...

    Willet and Greater Yellowlegs

Taken at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline (Oakland, CA, USA) at about about 20m. Willets, Yellowlegs, and Godwits are often seen flocking together in this area, so not a surprise to see these two cousins together.

    Yellowlegs

I dare not say if this bird is a greater or lesser. I heard no call and had no comparison. I'm leaning toward the lesser. Is there an expert in the house?
