The Search for the Greater Painted-Snipe female in Ba Ria and Can Gio Provinces, Vietnam

I’ve crafted a story to share with you about my year-long birding journey in search of the female Greater Painted-Snipe—from a missed season to the right one, gaining experience and a deeper understanding of this elusive crepuscular species.
  3. Vietnamese Greenfinch

    Vietnamese Greenfinch

A Vietnamese Greenfinch perching on a line in Lam Dong, Vietnam. As the name suggests, it's an endemic species that can be found only in the Da Lat Plateau of southern Vietnam. It's a lifer for me too!
  4. White-rumped munia

    White-rumped munia

I'd say this species is among the cuttest I've encountered. Something about the connical beak, the innocent eyes, and the texture pattern just makes it so lovable.
  5. Herons' nesting season

    Herons' nesting season

A pair of Black-Crowned Night Herons carrying sticks for their nests at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Vietnam. - Opening to the public in 1869, it is one of the world's oldest continuously operating zoos. - These Herons, along with many Lesser adjutant, Painted storks, and Black swans...
  6. Coppersmith Barbet

    Coppersmith Barbet

I guess it was trying to carve a nest out of this tree. It seemed quite diligent and wasn't bothered by my presence. I notice these barbets usually perch high up so it was a treat to see one came so close to the ground.

What species of Flycatcher was it? - Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam

I captured it at Gia Dinh park in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam several days ago. eBird data shows only 3 types of flycatchers ( Asian Brown, Taiga, Grey-Headed Canary) were ever present in this park. However, as far as i'm aware, none of those have light blue back like this one.
  8. Common iora

    Common iora

a late afternoon shoot of a Brown Shrike at a park
  10. Blue Rock-Thrush (female)

    Blue Rock-Thrush (female)

I guess Tetrapods ( Wave-dissipating concrete blocks) do count as rock for her.
  11. Indian White-eye

    Indian White-eye

Don't shoot (with camera xd) until you see the whites of their eyes
  12. Black-collared starling

    Black-collared starling

My first encounter of the species. I was looking out of the balcony of my motel in Dalat when this fella flew by, landed on a colorful branch nearby and start bathing gleefully from the morning dew.

Sandpiper? - Vung Tau, Vietnam - Oct 24

I stumbled upon this bold guy landing on a rock very close to the shore. I wasn't carrying my 7D II at the time so I had to zoom all the way in with crappy iPhone camera, hence the poor image quality. I guess it was a sandpiper species but I'm not sure. Please help me identify it, thank you.

White-throated Kingfisher rescue - Khanh Hoa, Vietnam ( Warning: wall of text ahead!)

A seemingly normal bird photography day has turned into one of the most memorable moments of my life. On the morning of October 29th. I was at a foothill forest in Khanh Hoa, Vietnam, setting up my position for a shot of the Asian green bee-eaters when, an unsettling sight caught my attention...

Whimbrel? Curlew? - Khanh Hoa, Vietnam

I recently captured these three individual shorebirds at a coastal area near Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam. I am new to shorebirds and couldn't make out what species they are. Thank you.

  21. Whiskered tern in flight

    Whiskered tern in flight

Is it flying though? The strong headwind introduced significant drag and made the bird appeared frozen mid-air, allowing me to take shots like this.
  22. Whiskered tern with food

A Whiskered tern carrying his food passing by a fishing boat.
  23. Aerial Food Fight

  24. Lesser coucal

    Lesser coucal

A Lesser coucal perching on an open branch. I was riding on my motorbike when I passed by something brown and black on an open tree. I turned around and pulled out my trusty 7D II, took a few shots and got this. It's my first encounter with the species too.

Are these brown-throated sunbirds? - Vietnam

I captured these three sunbirds at different places and times. I believe they are all female brown-throated sunbirds, but their eyes seem to be black, not red as seen in other photos of the species. Please help me identify them correctly. Thank you.
