    They no longer frequent the area because of many surfers and their cars taking over.

    There use to be a few of them at Te Awanga beach, but now so many humans and motorcycles and they appear to have abandoned the area.

    Two were back yesterday, they have had a hard time with motorcycles roaring up and down the beach.

    This one could be easily mistaken for a Pied Oystsercatcher but I don't think it is because of the black feathers on its breast.

    This Oystercatcher successfully opened a mussel.

    There are 16 on this beach feeding on the washed up mussels. It was great to see so many of them.

    These two were displaying at each other, shortly after they mated. So it it is getting close to spring down here.

    These oystercatcher are in great numbers on the beach at the present. I have never seen so many in the past.

    Many more mussels have been washed up on Te Awanga beach and six Oystercatchers were feeding on them.
