  1. Birds in snow - 3

    Birds in snow - 3

And finally, the bird we drove up there to see: A Siberian Jay. This was my second trip up there this winter and my second time ever seeing Siberian Jays. Quite a few lovely shots. I may share another later, but chose this one for the snow theme set.

I may share one more next time I get time to post (kind of busy with a big sewing project at the moment)
  4. Another

    Another

Couldn't resist sharing more of the shots I got of the Siberian Jay. I've been going up there every winter for years hoping to see one of these birds, that I was told were often seen there and so "tame" they would even eat from your hand. But they've been inexplicably absent ... until they...

    Whoo hoo!

Now towards the end of February, however, not only are we getting longer and brighter days, and not only is the light helped by all the reflective snow ... but I even got a lifer yesterday :D My very first Siberian Jay. Two of them, in fact. They've been frequenting the feeders all week at a...

You could crop this picture above, but i tend to rarely do it with my pictures. Sometimes it can be good to have "space" in the images, eg if it will be used for a cover of a magazine, etc.

    Siberian Jay - adult

Both the parents were more or less indifferent to me after the chick and I had "socialized". They lay their eggs in late Mars during what is still winter here. So by now the chick is almost fully grown.

    Siberian Jay

I have just returned from a Trip to Northern Finland and North Norway as you can see from the Photo it was very cold just what you expect from a visit to the Arctic. I did manage a few nice birds in this beautiful part of the World.
  22. Not afraid

    Not afraid

The magic of this bird is it's complete unconcern about humans - a bit odd as it seldom encounters humans in it's remote habitats. Posted a similar image a year ago.
  23. A Siberian Jay to Graham!

    A Siberian Jay to Graham!

Must return the favour I was granted by Graham earlier this day. This is from last autumns visit to Vndtberget.
  24. Pine Bird

    Pine Bird

It is evident that the Siberian jay must have evolved in protection of pine trees, as it's colours exactly matches those of the pine tree bark.
