The dazzling luminescent colors of this tiny eye-popping kingfisher are so bright that my camera did not seem to quite know what to do with them. Any more and I think my camera would have exploded. Formerly in the genus "Alcedo." This is the Zambezi River race "C. c. robertsi" which has a whiter...
This Malachite kingfisher was, unfortunately, using a snag a wee bit further away. With some patience, however, and using the hide windowsill as a "tripod", I got a shot sharp enough to crop closer on. Their Norwegian name, btw, means Tiara kingfisher, and they certainly are bejeweled |=)|
A beautiful Malachite Kingfisher. I filmed a pair of these birds along a river in the Eastern Cape of South Africa for my bird website. I also managed to snap this photo.
These little birds were easy to find in the waterways of the Okavango Delta. Their favorite hunting perches were in the reeds on the sides of the open channels. When a boat came by they would fly out ahead down the channel.
In the shadow of a bush, hanging over the swamp, he was telling her a story. This is what I thought they were doing. Anyhow I had time to take several photos.
