    'Special visitor!'

Hi all, today our local Shire person, Linda Bradburn, had organised a bird-watching event at a private forest (owned by the Shire) it contains what they term as 'Gilgai', they are depressions in the ground and fill with water when and if it rains and then the soil at the bottom erupts to the...

Judy & I have just returned from a week away, camping in our caravan. One of the traditions of camping in Oz is the barbeque, the BBQ or "barbie". Standing outside the 'van, tongs in hand at the barbie, I glanced towards a vehicle parked nearby. A bird landed on the radio aeiral...

    Eastern Shrike-tit

I sighted this bird while out looking for birds with my new camera. I took a number of shots, but this is one of the better ones as in the others the birds head was partially obscured.
  14. Searching

    Searching

Eastern Shrike-tit (female) She is busily searching for food sources...loose bark that she can prise off with that powerful beak to expose the invertebrates hiding underneath. Often the only sign that these birds are around is a rain of small bits of bark from high in the trees.

    A difficult task...

This female Eastern Shrike-tit clearly thought the dead vine she had prised off this rather tangled dead tree was a splendid find...she had been taking smaller twigs and fibres into the trees all day...but getting it out of the tangle of branches was proving to be a difficult task. She kept...

    Today's colour scheme is...

Eastern Shrike-tit (male) Yellow, black and white...! The only two birds I photographed during my bush walk yesterday (still today in England) were decked out in these colours. This bird was high in the trees...I heard a pair chattering, so I tried playing their calls from my tiny MP3 player...

    The masked scamp

Eastern Shrike-tit (male) I love the way this mischievous little bird sometimes looks full-on at the camera, showing its black mask.

Wilson's Reserve makes for a good morning work-out. Theres lots of overhead vegetation so it doesn't get too hot on the head but on the other hand the available 'light' can at times be tricky (must remember to pack the flash..keep forgetting!). Take the right path and walk through dark forest...
