    My first view of this species and it has its wings up. Good Luck for me comes with much time and loving meditation in my focus on birds.

    Locally distributed, shy, and generally uncommon, we were fortunate to see this tall, spectacular species. In South Africa, they are considered endangered. This was one of a pair. The dark iris suggests it is a male. Females are similar but have yellow eyes.

    The sexes can be distinguished by the golden yellow irises of the female (left) and the brown irises and dangling yellow wattles of the male (right).
