    At last

My first picture of Black Swans from Little Grove, as although there always seemed to be some Out There, they were far too far away to photograph. These two came over to apologise for their bad behaviour, as if they knew this was my last day in Albany.

    Black and white over black

I followed an Australian Ibis flying over and got him over a pair of Black Swans for contrast. Strangely I don't appear to have uploaded too many pictures of these swans..

Unusually coloured Black Swan. Patterning suggests it may be a juvenile, which are usually grey, progressively becoming black.

    It's all in the timing!

I never noticed the Hardhead swimming past the swan when I was taking this picture. It actully took me a while to work out what had happened to the swan's head; much clearer to see now it's been so heavily cropped LOL Saturday Fun

    Elegance

There were one or two species there that I'd not seen for a bit - this Black Swan was one of them. Sadly he didn't come very close to shore, so this is a long distance zoom.

.... but the wrong country for my title LOL. The following day we headed for Tygum Park, a local nature park on the Logan River. From the car park you just sort of head straight for the water and there were loads of 'black' water birds. Here we have some Black Swans, Eurasian Coots and a...

.. and beautiful eh? So, the start of my last day in Albany for tomorrow we were heading to Perth. I think this was the first picture I'd got of these from the hide. They had been far too distant to capture before. Whichever side of the harbour I was at, they were on the other side LOL.

    Pelly and friends

A little distant, and a big zoom and crop thereafter too, were this group (well only a little part of it really). In there is an Australian Pelican, three Black Swans and a load of Grey Teal.
  25. One of a kind

    One of a kind

The Black Swan is an Australian endemic and the only swan native to the continent. It is also the only swan species that is not white. We had turned off the coast road and headed in to Wilson's Inlet, where we stopped at Morley Beach, an important shorebird nesting area.
