Hooded Crow in the city centre. Such an impressive bird. I have a Black and white picture of the same bird but I'm not sure if they're allowed on here. The camera, was/is terrible but this time managed to perform well.
  6. American Crow with acorns

    American Crow with acorns

Was collecting acorns and saw these crows trying to open them up, so I cracked a few and tossed them over. They took them and opened them up as I got some great pictures of this cool behavior. This one got a whole nut out in one piece

    Can crows recognize individual cats?

I live in a neighborhood which has lots of cats roaming about. I also routinely pay attention to alarm calls of crows to see a raptor or something interesting. In recent days, I heard several times that local Crows make enormous noise, with their intense grating calls. It turned that it is...

So if I understand the field guides, white-based neck feathers argues in favor of Chihuahan Raven and is a pretty strong field mark. (Also the day was partly overcast so I don't think the feathers are appearing falsely white from glare.) However, Chihuahan is rare for northwest New Mexico, and...

    Scrubby (California Scrub Jay)

Easily one of the most overlooked species in SF with being so common and yet quite wonderful. Whilst at the start, I took several pictures, I too became normalised to them. I even started to refer to them as Scrubbies, to make it shorter when calling it. Although, I did have to then explain what...
  14. Steller's Jay

    Steller's Jay

When I first came across this bird, it was a bit of a surprise. Blue, with a crest. I took a video at the time telling how I was working out what it could be, and putting it into the corvid family. The flight then confirmed it and the call after removed all doubt. I later found it on a data...

    American Crow

I was almost two weeks into the trip and despite seeing them almost every day, I realised that I had taken very few shots of them.
