    Silver gull and Variable oystercatcher

And apparently only one thing to eat on the entire beach, LOL.
  2. Loafers

    Loafers

We didn't really have anything major on for this day, after lunch we went into Albany then up and around Mount Clarence looking at some spectacular views over Middleton Beach and Oyster Harbour. Back down into Albany we followed the Harbour road where we came across a colony of Silver Gulls of...
  3. Odd one out

    Odd one out

After a rather nice lunch at a cafe in the centre of the small town, we set off from Denmark following the coastline of Wilson's Inlet. We saw many birds, but some not in a good position to photograph, unlike this group of Silver Gulls. Can you see the odd one out?
  4. An assortment of black and whites

An assortment of black and whites

Australian Ibis, Great Crested Tern and others, not so easily picked out; but there's a White-faced Heron, Caspian Tern and a little Silver Gull. There's other things out there, brownish... merging into the mud and seaweed and I've not a scoobie about them!!
  5. Red-billed Gull

Also known as Silver Gull in Australia

Daddy bird, Mummy bird and Baby bird

Sorry, just couldn't resist that title, just reminded me of the Goldilocks story LOL. Just beyond the Welcome Swallows was this group consisting of Australian Pelican, Great Cormorant, Silver Gull, Caspian Tern and Great Crested Tern.
  7. Farewell

    Farewell

As the boat left the main river a Silver Gull flew over as if to say goodbye. Peter and Adrienne had booked that trip for me months before in the hope that I would enjoy it... and enjoy it I did. Very memorable. Thanks my friends.

It was actually quite difficult to get an isolated bird as there were so many flying around, but in a rare lull a Silver Gull floated past and for once I was above one in flight!!

I'd now left the main footpath and wandered down onto the beach... not a lot to see, but there was this rather pretty Silver Gull.

    One of very few

I was surprised at how few gull species there are in Australia. Silver Gull was the only one I saw in Queensland, with just two other species elsewhere on my travels.

    Pretending to be a tern

This Silver Gull was successfully diving for small fish.
  18. New Holland Silver

    New Holland Silver

This is the Australian subspecies of Silver Gull. Rather handy for me (as I don't 'do' gulls really) as there's very few species of gull in Australia, this one the most common. I was on my way to meet up with Ken who was down on his favourite local patch the beach at Wellington Point. a rather...

    The smallest

of the three Australian gulls. This is the most widespread one, being found on all coasts, and some distance inland too. It's over a month since I last posted a picture of one! I saw two of the three gulls, the one I didn't get was the Kelp Gull which is only found in the south east corner and...

    Loafers

Not far from where the pelican was, there were a load of Silver Gulls, (I couldn't get them all in the frame) they were dozing at the water's edge. I do think they're rather pretty gulls these.
  22. Togetherness

    Togetherness

On the shingle bank just past the two swallows were a rather cosy looking pair.... A Great Cormorant and a Silver Gull. Social distancing hadn't arrived, or even been thought of in November!
  23. Every cloud

    Every cloud

Approaching our berth, a Silver Gull provided an escort for us. Trouble was I was so intent watching him, I was too slow to grab a picture of a Whiskered Tern that flew below me!!!! grrrr But at least I saw him! Lifers by the end of this day: 198

    Yippee that's mine

Without knowing about it, I did try Ann's method of focusing on the chum.... but... well I'm much too slow!! However, I did get this Silver Gull going off with his prize catch. ... an another yippee... hairdressers open today in Scotland and I've an appointment in a few minutes!!
  25. In front of a Canoe Tree

In front of a Canoe Tree

Round the other side of the island, birds began to appear from all sides, particularly Whistling Kites and Silver Gulls. However, there was also a pesky speedboat with some youngsters aboard who came speeding round and round us. We sat tight and ignored them so they gave up in the end. The...
