  1. Great Egret

    Great Egret

Taken at the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA at about 40m. A little too overcast to do these large, white birds justice, but enjoyed photographing them nonetheless.
  2. Barn Owl

    Barn Owl

Taken at the Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline at about 40m. Early morning, couple hours after sunrise on a gloomy overcast day we were caught by surprise by this poor owl being chased by 34 American Crows. The owl would swoop and dodge and then land in the tall reeds and wait and just when he...

    Barn Owl on nest box

A few years ago they started a project in Israel to reduce the use of rodenticides in agriculture. They placed a lot of nestboxes, initially just for barn owls, but later also for kestrels. This has been so succesful that the practice was also adopted by Jordanian and Palestinian farmers.
  11. Side-On view of Barn Owl

    Side-On view of Barn Owl

Second of the two best shots I managed to get during a blissful afternoon's owl watching at Heron's Pool, Chew Lake, near Bristol, England. There is an owl box in a large tree that has had one pair of owls breeding successfully for at least the last two years. Unfortunately, it did not manage to...
