Swallow nesting behaviour (1 Viewer)

HI,

sorry if this query has a very obvious answer -Im new to this - please humour me.
On a recent holiday in Greece I observed what I concidered a rather strange behaviour pattern exhibited by Swallows. On more than one occassion many of these birds approached a nest one by one, came within a few cms of the opening of the nest then flew away. There appeared to be some aggression from presumably the parents. I assumed this was some form of infanticide? From neighbouring groups of birds?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
