Springwatch 28 May - 15 June (1 Viewer)

Amazing Programe,i Dont Get Much Of A Chance To Watch It But When I Do It Is Superb, shame About The Creasted Tits On Tonights Show, but Thats Nature, the Production Village Is Something Else,so Many Nesting Birds Inthe One Area......well Done To All :clap::clap:

I can ignore the banter when the footage is as good as it was: an inside view of a treecreeper's nest, a treecreeper cartwheel, great footage of a wildcat, nest box cams etc. etc. Especially for the treecreeper bits I was really glued to the box!

I know they try to make the programme as spontaneous and free-flowing as possible but some of the "reveals" are just too convenient in my opinion-I really doubt they would, for example, have been going on about wildcats if they didn't already have some footage stockpiled (as I bet yesterday's was).

This is a bit like the beaver tree-felling just at the very end of the last Springwatch last year-they made out it was just happening there and then but subsequently admitted it was footage taken earlier.

Also it's quite sad to see how many people on the Message Board have "adopted" nestlings, some in rather dubious circumstances-from what I have read not with an amazing survival rate either.

I agree it was worth watching for that footage alone. Brilliant images. I also loved the metal bashing woodpecker. For some reason I couidn't help laughing out loud every time it drummed.

I hope the weather brightens up a bit so that people can appreciate what a beautiful place Pensthorpe really is.

The wildcat footage was really excellent, plus you got the benefit of slo-mo and stop replay with features highlighted - something Simon is really good at. I wasn't completely happy with the haunch markings and the neck white patch either but I would for sure have ticked it if I'd seen it!

The fact that the cat was calling must surely indicate she had kits nearby. I guess she moved them the same evening, clearly she had sussed the cameraman and all I've read shows Wildcats will not tolerate human presence.

Of course, I wonder where it was (also the site they didn't score at but found sign). That one looked like maybe Glen Feshie but I've no idea about the one where they saw the female.

Have just watched second episode of "Springwatch" on i player and I take back all I said about first episode. All the presenters seeming to be interested in what the others were talking about...and amazing footage of the wildcat. Brilliant! Hope all succeeding programmes are so enjoyable.

Some viewing Springwatch, may have heard Simon King giving thanks to Alan Bantick in Strathspey for his help with the Crested Tits.Sadly the GS Woodpecker got hold of them, before the Cameras but thats nature for you.

Alan has a fatastic website (especially the Diaries Pages) on all the local birds and wildlife of Strathspey, which is worth a look. You can find it at www.cairngormwildlife.co.uk

There have been some complaints on the messageboard about Bill's use of the word 'horny' in the bit about stag beetles mating. LOL!
I notice there have been a few people complaining about some of Bill's sexual innuendoes. I seem to remember in the dark and distant past sitting on the sofa with my parents watching black and white wildlife programmes and having to squirm in silence as we watched images of mating rhinos. I think it's quite refreshing that Bill is able to broach the subject in a light hearted manner and crack a few jokes about it. I'm sure it must make the subject less, rather than more, embarrassing to approach as some parents on the message boards keep complaining.

Fantastic shots of Ospreys fishing in last night's programme, by the way.

Some people will always find something to complain about. They should be ignored.

They would have been more at home watching the comedy-drama about the old take-offence-at-anything-and-everything busybody Mary Whitehouse, on after Springwatch. ;)

SW has been pretty good this week. I would have liked to have seen more about that Pine Marten who was nesting in some guy's house.

I'm going to miss most of the rest of the series as I'm off to the USA tomorrow. Oh well, you can't have it all! ;)

I wonder how many people would watch this but don't simply because of Oddie? I can't believe anybody watches it who wouldn't otherwise because of him

Allan also has a Badger Hide which he will take you to which I thoroughly recommend. As well as seeing Badgers and enjoying chatting with Allan he also showed us a webcam on his Goldeneye nestbox by the hide.
