    Isn’t coco a cocaine user not the drug itself, and I guess only in Mexico? And I haven’t run across coco for a woman before but there is different slang in every country. Coco can also mean clever or a crush as far as I know and I am sure plenty more.

    They are not even each others sister species or particularly close in the large white headed gulls. Unless you massively reduce the number of recognized species this split is mandatory and the evidence seems basically overwhelming.

    I think this is a case where maintaining a link to the original or a novel name that provides some context is desirable in order to aid people in associating the name with the correct bird as wren names are kind of a soup of descriptors already. Spot-backed is apt but perhaps doesn’t help link...
