Pentax HD D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 ED DC AW

Finally had some sunshine on Sunday so went for a walk with the new lens. Here are some sample shots. https://www.flickr.com/photos/32585204@N05/23667675113/in/dateposted-public/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/32585204@N05/23998905050/in/dateposted-public/...

Pentax HD D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 ED DC AW

I'll be sure to post some shots when we get some decent weather worth going out in! That Nuthatch shot is superb. It's a bird I have yet to even see, let alone photograph. They are down on the moor at the edge of town apparently so I'll have to take a look.

Pentax HD D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 ED DC AW

I've already tried it with the Black Rapid sling strap and it's not too bad at all, so think handheld shots will be fine. I have a lightweight tripod I can attach to the camera bag if I intend sitting in the same spot for any length of time. Works just fine with the ball head too instead of a...

Pentax HD D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 ED DC AW

I just treated myself to the DFA 150-450mm zoom as a late Christmas present. It was on offer at SRS Microsystems so after a lot of thought I nipped over to Watford to pick one up. It's a beast of a lens and a lot heavier than my usual combo, the fantastic DA*300mm paired with the 1.4x TC or...

    k3

Picked up a K3 a couple of weeks ago and I'm living it. The 24MP allows a good level of cropping and paired with the DA*300mm it's fantastic. I have already seen quite a few shots taken with the K3 + DA*300mm + 1.4x TC and have to say it looks very good indeed. Think I'll be buying one very soon.

Taking Camera equipment has hand baggage on Aircraft

Having spent most of my working life in security, I think I can honestly state that much of what we see today, trotted out as airport security, is nothing more than ill conceived theatre! Anyone traveling through any major airport can easily buy the items required to make any number of...

    Panasonic FZ-200

I recently bought a Panasonic FZ-200, mainly to compliment my DSLR and as a lightweight travel camera. Image quality and manual controls are very handy and I am enjoying using it. What I am most impressed with though is the video. I have shot a few clips at both full HD and at the 100 frames /...

    UK dragonflies and damselflies, 2013

I took a walk at one of my usual spots on Thursday around midday to see if there were any Dragonflies appearing yet, and was rewarded with a rather nice Four Spotted Chaser, the first time I have seen one at this location - Wilstone Reservoir. The meadow grasses were at chest height in places...

Another great image. Taking off or just waving?

Now that is a really lovely image! They are such good subjects, common enough, but such pretty little birds.

Thanks for the positive comments guys! These little beauties sure do test your tracking technique. In fact, I think it was actually easier photographing Dragonflies in flight last year than these Hobbies. Fantastic to see them though.

Thanks everyone. Hoping to see some juveniles too later in the year, so will be making regular trips back to the same spot.

Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone. A lot of hours hunkered down in recent sub-zero temperatures finally paid dividends in helping to get the good shots. Worth every chilly moment though to see these little beauties.

Thanks Pepe This was indeed offered to the Female who was sitting across the other side of the pool. Too many branches in the way for a shot of that though... this time! Apparently later in the day another turned up (not sure whether it was male or female) which led to some rather heated...

    Winter walking boots

I can't remember which ones I got, might have been Tay or Spey I think. Mine are all over camo which don't seem to be available now. Love 'em and they usually start getting a lot more use on the weekend walks at this time of year.

    Winter walking boots

Mine are not the arctic type, but are plenty warm enough anyway. I think they are pretty much guaranteed warm down to temperatures that we are not likely to ever see in the UK. ;) I seem to remember when I bought mine that the Muckboots website did give estimated temperature ranges / comfort...

    Winter walking boots

I take a size 9 shoe, so ordered the size 9 Muckboots. A bit roomier than a normal shoe or boot perhaps but not so much that my foot feels like it's flopping around in a bucket! I usually wear thicker boot socks when I wear the wellies and find them just right.

    Winter walking boots

Like the wellies too. I've had a pair of the Muckboots wellies that have served me well the last couple of years. Last year I was out at my usual patch at first light in -13C temperatures and standing in ice and snow for long periods. My feet never felt in the slightest bit cold at all. Just...

Very colourful. I can think of at least half a dozen people I know that would run a mile if I showed them something like that!

    Pentax 560mm f5.6 announced

I wonder, if Sigma does update the 500mm F4.5, will it even be available any longer in Pentax mount? Many updated lenses are no longer available in Pentax fit, which is a great shame as there seem to be plenty of Pentax users wishing they were.
