    Name a Bird You've Photographed

3471 I hope it is ok to add a link to the photo in the gallery here rather than upload again. https://www.birdforum.net/gallery/grenada-tanager.716515/ Species is currently known as Lesser Antillean Tanager, but at least one field guide considers that two species, of which Grenada Tanager will...

    French Guiana in July

According to Birds of Northern SA there could be alternatives: Velvet-fronted and Golden-tufted Grackles, but they both have dark eyes. Niels

Maybe 2 Vireos, South Padre Island Convention Ctr, TX, USA

I think a good comparison picture for the first two is this black-whiskered: https://www.birdforum.net/gallery/black-whiskered-vireo.431829/ Very different face to my mind. For what it's worth, my first impression when looking at these was Warbling V Niels

They did get the help of quite strong winds that morning:) Niels

    Boobies in Grenada

On location, I estimated at least 10 times more Red-footed than Brown Booby, and with a few Magnificent Frigatebird mixed in. The red-footed were mostly dark with white tail and a few were mostly white. I could not find any Masked Boobies, they would have differed in being white birds with black...

    Grenada Tanager take off

Far from a great photo, but only the second image in the gallery of this species and as close as I got to a flight image.

    Tropical Mockingbird

This bird was everywhere in Grenada, from dry lowland forest in the south to higher elevation wet forest in the center to a variety of hotel gardens.

I wonder if there was a spider web that he was plucking things out of. Niels

    Grenada Tanager

The bird was truly holding its head downwards most of the time I saw it, including in this photo. Current taxonomy has this one as Lesser Antillean Tanager, but it is split by the newest field guide.
  19. Antillean Crested Hummingbird

    Antillean Crested Hummingbird

In the middle of a rain shower (and therefore a lot less light), this bird was feeding from the flowers of whatever palm this was.

The spotted area behind the bird is the side window on our rental vehicle. Yes, we had made it a bit dirty :-)

Colombia - Minca and Tayrona: what to do?

When I contacted Breiner, he first told us he would not be available but that he had another, English-speaking guy he could send instead. Then as time approached, it turned out to be him anyway. I would probably hire him on the first or the second day of your time there and then do the rest on...

Colombia - Minca and Tayrona: what to do?

If you feel that way and you want to see it all, then I would recommend using a guide. Several of these species are tricky; I got the parakeet and the bush-tyrant but missed the quetzal, just to mention one. Black-backed Thornbill was another miss - the guide felt this one varied in...
