Quest for high quality 6x30ish new or used?

The modern ones from your second link. I recommend giving them a go, they fit the requirements from your op quite well.

Quest for high quality 6x30ish new or used?

Have you considered the Retrovid 7x35? While not exactly up to your specifications, they are very compact and a lot of people find them very relaxing to use.

Trying binoculars, what to look for to compare models.

My advice (only when buying high quality bins) is awfully simple - prioritise comfort and pleasure. If I look through a binocular and have the 'kidney bean' effect no matter how much I try to adjust the eyecups, I'm not going to buy it. Part of me will try to argue against this, because the...

Anyone using the new Swarovski NL Pure 10X52s for general birding?

I would recommend an 8x32 or 7x35 if you plan to walk with them a lot. If you think that most of your observations will happen from inside a stationary car, and the binocular will not be carried on walks, then 10x52 should be a great choice. It is not just a bit brighter, it also should...

Have you compared the best Kowa (Genesis Prominar XD) side by side against the best Leica (Noctivid)?

Can I suggest something? I have learned to do this myself when comparing two or more objects if I already own one of them. You have the Kowa's, you know them very well and like them. It's pointless to convince yourself that something else would be better or worse based on other people's...

    Monovid minimalist.

As much as I like the idea of an extremely portable monocular, I feel zero satisfaction observing nature with just one eye. Not to mention the annoying focusing and increased shakes. Monoculars are not for me.

best pocket/compact binoculars for opera & shows?

That was the Retrovid, the opposite of wide angle. I didn't really feel embarrassed tbh, first of all because nobody cared, second of all because red dot increases your prestige :D Note on the wide angle - it would have been really beneficial, because with Retrovid it was always a compromise...

best pocket/compact binoculars for opera & shows?

I have tried a quality 8x20 and 7x35 for theatre and ballet and I have to say that the latter was so much more enjoyable to use. 8x20 was fine but just not bright enough. Some people would never consider using a full size binocular in a theatre, but I'm just shameless like that. I have never...

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

It might be that I'm turning evil or something, but writing that post and seeing some of the first responses to it, brought me more laughter and joy than any other post I had ever written here or on any other forum. Trolling is actually fun, who knew? I'm a bit scared to think what kind of games...

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

Mathematics and binoculars are a very interesting combination. We also need to use logical reasoning here to draw the most logically sound conclusions. It's important to have a broad education, which most people in todays world are lacking. Abraham Lincoln said that specialization is for insects...

Allbinos review of the Canon IS II 10x30

It's been a personal bias of the owner ever since binocular reviews started on optyczne.pl, the mother website for allbinos. In general, he has been saying there is no problem and no difference between stabilized and non-stabilized 10x and 12x, and that compact binoculars are horrible and...

    "Best binoculars for ..."

Binoculars are a complicated subject. This forum and cloudynights are the best on the interwebz for binocular nerds and quality info. If you are looking for definite answers or people who will make a decision for you, there are probably plenty of '10 BEST BINOCULARS FOR ALL YOUR OUTDOOR NEEDS...

    Checking Collimation

I think you got two great answers here, with actually the best methods for checking collimation at home. In my opinion, judging collimation the way you mentioned is a bit problematic. It was the first method that I have learned, but it has several issues: our hands shake more with binoculars...

    which 10x42 : Nikon HG / GPO Passion HD / Maven B1.2 / Vortex Razor HD ?

Most likely the best solution is - order the Nikon online. We are privileged, shopping wise, to live in a time and place where you can order things online and return them after a brief testing period. You will have a few days to see what you think about it from the comfort of your own home. If...

comparison of NL 10x32 and SF 10x32

I thought I was the crazy one... What is up with Swarovski eyecups lol? I once tested a pair of NL 12x42 in a hunting store where employees had next to no idea about binoculars. When I tried to adjust the eyecups they would just unscrew. I felt like an idiot but hey, I have done this on plenty...

    8x30 E II eyepieces fogging

That was the main reason I returned my pair, twice. I really wanted to like them, but short eye relief (which also resulted in eyelashes constantly smearng the eyepiece for me) makes fogging more problematic than any other bin I have tried. But all my binoculars have a problem with fogging.

Vortex vs Swarovski vs Zeiss vs Leika bins (~8x42)

Lol at the photos tehri - just the kind of silly creativity we are missing in our modern lives. To the OP - there is enough material for you to read on the forum to spend weeks glued to the screen. In the end, you will not know until you choose one, spend some time with it and notice something...

Waterproofness and your use of binoculars

This has been a very educational thread. I'm glad to see that it also proved to be a lot more popular than I had imagined! Thanks a lot everyone for participating. As a casual nature observer I definitely underestimated a serious birder's tenacity :D

Waterproofness and your use of binoculars

Ratal - I was a bit surprised by your first post. I considered it would be useful to describe how I see it, so that others can better understand my approach and limitations. I do not feel there is any disdain for others in my post, that was not my intention. My original post is a question, with...

Waterproofness and your use of binoculars

This might be a strange question to some, but it just dawned on me that basically every thread that mentions binoculars which are not fully waterproof has a lot of comments from people stating that these bins are unusable to them. Now, I never put much thought into this until now, so I have...

between paplio 6.5x21 ii and bushnell 10x25 legend ?

I find the 10x25 to be the least fun to use of the standard binocular types, so I understand where you stand. High magnification combined with small exit pupil, low weight and usually narrow FoV results in shakes and lack of satisfaction from use. Nikon HGL 8x20 and 8x20 Leica should just barely...

Is the 15x50 IS worth it if you already have a 12x36 IS?

I concur about the difference in magnification. I had expressed my opinion on it before in another thread, but we all perceive things differently and there were plenty of different views on the subject. The most interesting thing I personally discovered when comparing a 7x with a 12x was that it...

How are streetlights supposed to look through good binoculars?

Don't let people, and especially the manufacturers, tell you that's normal. It has only become 'normal' because we dropped our standards and agreed to the 'norm'. You have seen with your own eyes that it is possible to have bins without this issue. It sucks to have a binocular that produces...

How useful are allbinos reviews for you?

When I was a binocular novice, allbinos seemed like a be all, end all kind of website. After all, it has rankings and points, so it must be objective truth, right? As I got older and more experienced, I realized that their format of reviews is a lot less valuable to me than opinions and...
