    South America: Where?

Hi Re Palominos….difficult to say exactly as it was part of our total package for Peru ( doing the touristy bit plus some birding where I could….my wife is not a birder) but looking up very similar trips they appear to run between £40-60 pp. BTW you don’t have to swim with the sea lions!😬but be...

    South America: Where?

Was at the Palominos Islands in October (morning boat out of Callao, just southwest of Lima airport). Penguin readily seen, along with many of the Peruvian coastal specialties. It wasn’t a dedicated birding trip, more a ‘swim with the sea lions’ thing (not my cup of tea) but fortunately the...

    Visiting Mauritius

Indeed. Black River Gorge NP will get you most, if not all, the endemics. I did use the Wildlife Foundation service to get the Olive White-eye (which I missed at BRG) on Ile aux Aigrettes.

    Costa Rica Gateway

Hi Chris We did a tour with them in 2020: I don’t know about recent reviews per se but we had a well organised and successful trip with them, if 4 years ago is not too far back. Costa Rica Gateway’s facebook page has recent tours highlighted so assuming all is operating well for them. Regards

    Madeira

Monte palace gardens for firecrest and chaffinch The Zino night tour will get you silhouettes and calls (one skimmed my head 😳) and the hike back to car park was (k)nackering ! The only place I got the pigeon was on one of the Madeira windbird tours (who are great btw) to the east of Funchal at...

    Lesser Antilles cruise

https://stluciawildlife.com/component/k2/itemlist/category/7-our-tours These do ‘cruise ship specials’ on St Lucia. I used them for a morning’s birding (Vision was my guide) and got all the endemics in an hour and a half, but we were staying on the island for a week. I’m sure their cruise ship...

Yellow-billed Magpie to the south of Morro Bay, though I didn't note the exact location, on our way south towards LA. This was in May. Might be Los Alamos Country Park, where they hop around your feet

As at 15:20 today: Council now agreed to remove some of it at the upper sections. Still some issues re length and materials used, apparently

New Zealand endemics & birding trip

PS Blue Duck and Kea at Monkey Creek; Fiordland Crested in Milford Sound (sorry niko - although I did miss a few....not a dedicated birding trip).

New Zealand endemics & birding trip

‘East Homer Tunnel will give you Kea and South Island Wren.’ Just a note of caution: the road to Milford Sound has been subject to ‘clearway’ restrictions for fear of avalanches (was there last week) so one couldn’t stop and park up at Homer Tunnel. Of course, the situation may have changed in...

    Estonia Advice

There are those more experienced than me above, but would support Laheemaa for white-backed woody and hazel hen. Also, if you’re into ssp’s those of willow tit, jackdaw, nuthatch, herring gull etc are common. Easily reachable from Tallin.

    Sinharaja day trip

Just to say: did a day trip with Amila last week. Took 2.5 hours to Sinharaja which was pretty good going. Gave us 8 hours classic birding and a great day out

    Sinharaja day trip

http://www.birdwingnature.com/welcome.html You could try Amila via above. Whether he gets that far south as Hikkaduwa as a start point I am unsure but I have booked him for a day to Sinharaja in Feb starting from Ambalangoda, a little further north up the coast.

    Khao lak in January

https://www.khaolaktourplan.com/bird-watching You could also try these guys. I had a booking with them last month; unfortunately their birdguide had an accident the night before we were due to go (he was ok, fortunately, and I'm guessing back in action now). However, I did use their driver who...

    Day Trip-Khao Lak area

Bit of a long shot....but wondered if anyone in the Khao Lak area 29th, 30th, or 31st Oct this year? Looking for a day's birding in the area but having tried some of the guides, logistics and timings are not working out, so having to go solo (my wife is not a birder). Have also tried Thailand...
