Great pose and good angle too. Love the fine feather details
  4. Buff Breasted Babbler

    Buff Breasted Babbler

Another lifer on the day of this skittish and fast moving little fella. The reference guide says similar to Abbot's Babbler but this Buff breasted one has a longer tail! I am but a "camera man"!!
  5. Ferruginous Wood Partridge

    Ferruginous Wood Partridge

My better half shoots better than me and she has managed to capture two of these together that should give a better show of the plumage from the front, side and rear. f/6.3 1/40s ISO2500
  6. Ferruginous Wood Partridge

    Ferruginous Wood Partridge

This was another lifer for me. On this occasion there were several chicks with an adult. I could not tell the gender unfortunately. These are skulkers and spook very easily f/5.6 1/64s ISO2000

Thank you for the compliments Delia, apologies but I do not know or was aware of subspecies of different shades. My reference guide is Craig Robson's book. It does not mention anything. I Googled it and the images shown are of various hues of this specie. On my post processing I have adjusted...
  9. Gould's Frogmouth

    Gould's Frogmouth

This was a lifer for sure. The subject sat so very quietly for long periods without moving much. It was taken under heavy canopy cover. f/5.6 1/160s ISO 3200

    Fire-Tufted Barbets

Here is another shot of a pair in the same frame.

    Fire-Tufted Barbet

Not a subject that come down to eye level but this was an exception on the day. At least on this outing I managed to get a better closeup shot with feather details. That red tuft on the head is something else!

A close up head shot for the feather details
  14. Red Headed Trogon (Female)

    Red Headed Trogon (Female)

This one is in the open. Better lighting so you take your shots whenever possible with a gem like that.
  15. Red Headed Trogon (Female)

    Red Headed Trogon (Female)

I went back a few days later to get better shots of the female. I like this shot even if the foreground is messy. It shows the environment that it thrives in i.e. under heavy canopy cover. My apologies for not being able to give the full scientific name for the female.

    Red Headed Trogon (Male)

This is a rear shot of the subject. Both genders have a hairlike feathery back in brown. The male show here has a red head as named f/5.6 1/125s ISO1000
  19. Red Headed Trogon (Male)

    Red Headed Trogon (Male)

It was my lucky day to get this gem of a bird. it has taken me 10 years from first sighting to finally nailing it! I have been away from avian photography for 3 years and this is a great start again! f/5.6 1/125s ISO3200

Comment by 'Guest' in media 'Banded Pitta (Male) in flight'

Hans, yes it was not easy but at least with digital one just erase the files and you can see if it was sharp. I kept pushing the ISO and exposing to the right, but I still needed the bird to be sharp, well at least the head and eyes. Finally got it without too much chroma noise in the dark...

Hi Deanne, yes with nesting material building a cosy one for the next batch of chicks to come. This is vital for their survival.

    Banded Pitta (Male) in flight

This was one of the few shots that I really wanted to get but because the lighting conditions under full jungle canopy cover is difficult I went through loads of tries until this one that I hope passes muster.

Thank you all - Pittas are fun so long as you can get them I guess!! I am glad I can show them here before deforestation wipes their habitat out and along with it the birds themselves. Cheers now.

    Banded Pitta - Female

We also spotted a female with nesting material

    Banded Pitta - Juvenile

We were lucky to spot a juvenile the same day as well. I cannot tell if this was a male or female
